Swimming Pools in Krakow

Krakow can boast two public open-air swimming pools and an assortment of indoor swimming baths. The latter belong to sport clubs, municipal agencies, Krakow’s institutions of higher education, and other organizations. Also swimming holes in Krakow hotels are usually available to the general public. Plus there is a water park in Krakow (Park Wodny) with water chutes and other wet attractions.

Bathing in Krakow in summer

Open-air swimming-pools in Krakow are usually available from June to September. Conversely, the indoor swimming pools often close for summer.

Since the city’s swimming baths are overcrowded when the heat waves strike, the locals in landlocked Krakow preferably weather them on a lakeside. There is a supervised lakeshore bathing beach with lifeguards within the city limits called Zalew Bagry and another in Przylasek Rusiecki area. But most popular is an artificial lake at Kryspinow just west of the city border. Yet actually people swarm to any swimmable water hole, and many even dare to take a dip in places where bathing is explicitly banned.

Note: Rivers in Krakow, including Wisla, are unsuitable for swimming.
Swimming pool is ‘basen’ in Polish.
