Breaking the news from Krakow, Poland UE Leaders Likely to Meet in Krakow in 2011. Polish government has selected Krakow as one of likely sites of the summit meetings of the European Union. They will take place on the territory of Poland during the Polish six-month presidency of the EU that starts on July 1st, 2011 to end on December 31st, 2011.
The planned summits include the Council of the Union rendezvous of the heads of states and governments as well as meetings on the ministerial level. At this point the country’s government has picked eleven Polish cities as possible summit sites. Apart from Krakow it has selected Gdansk, Katowice, Lodz, Poznan, Rzeszow, Sopot, Torun, Bydgoszcz, Warsaw, and Wroclaw. All of them had to prove they could boast an international airport, a couple of four-star hotels, suitable conference venues, and adequate roads. Krakow beats other Polish city on almost every count. Also, it offers unrivalled milieu. This year only the city hosted the conference of NATO defense ministers in February and a summit of the heads of states and governments from the Eastern Europe in June. |
